About me...

My school is located in Fortaleza, in Northeastern Brazil. Colégio 7 de Setembro is an 85-year-old institution. We have just been certified as an IB world school and we are already working in our first cohort <<https://www.c7s.com.br/international-baccalaureate/>>
I am in fact the Head of School and I am taking this course because I want to better support my Language teachers. Here at Colégio 7 de Setembro we are very much concerned with the quality of our work and the success of our students. I am sure you all feel the same in your institutions.
Well, I have been an English teacher since forever. I mean since I was eighteen and now I am 45 years old. So you do the math.
In the course of my work, besides being a teacher, I have been a Language Department Coordinator, Instructional material designer, books author, lecturer, teacher trainer, and now I run a 4000 student school. It is a lot of work, but I really love it.
I am married to a teacher who works at the public school system. Totally passionate teacher. Really. We have a son who has already decided to be a teacher. So you see my context.
My first graduation is Law, but I have only used it to volunteer work. I have funded with other lawyers two Human rights Advocacy institutions. You may take a look at one of them here: http://cedecaceara.org.br/site/
I have also worked in the University - Uni7: https://www.uni7.edu.br/corpo-docente/fabio-delano-vidal-carneiro/
I have also graduated in Pedagogy, but my reasearch area is Linguistics. I have a PhD and my doctoral reasearch was conducted in the University of Geneva. You can yake a look in my works at the following sites:
And here you have the love of my life: Luís Carlos

  1. What is the most pressing question I have about the Language A: language and literature course?
Well, as a Head of School I am pretty much worried my students fulfilment of IBDP requirements in all subjects. What concerns me about Language A: Language and Literature is:
-      How can I find instructional material in Portuguese, since this is the Language we are working in this subject?
-      Which and how many books must my students read?

2. How can I develop positive online professional relationships for the workshop and beyond?
I am free to share the experience I have in the field of linguistics, as I hold a PhD. I want so much to learn from the group and share materials.

3. What does a successful outcome look like for me after this workshop?
-Become able to successfully guide my team of teachers and students.
-Helping choose the right or best booklist.
-Get acquainted and keep in touch with my coursemates.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning

Approaches to teaching From most important to least important 1. Teaching based on inquiry  - In my opinion, inquiring is the foundation for all the other teaching processes. The first step we have to do is to create some kind of learnin need, learning desire, and this is only possible if the students start their learning processes by questioning why do they have to learn what they are studying, this is the foundation for the contextualization of knowledge. Contextualization will help transform this knowledge in practical abilities in order to participate in social practices. Hence, connecting local and global issues may be easier, assessment will make much more sense and collaboration will be promoted for inquiring learning also leads to question how we learn. 2. Teaching focused on conceptual understanding.  Inquiring teaching must develop into the conceptual understanding of what is being studied and the connection between these concepts and the development of abilities. ...

CLOSE TEXTUAL ANALYSIS IN PRACTICE

CLOSE TEXTUAL ANALYSIS IN PRACTICE Well, here I have posted my analysis of five key IB documents. Based upon questions posed in a Professional Development workshop on Language A: Language and Literature. IB mission statement “The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.  To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.  These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.” What ideological biases exist in the IB mission statement and how do you know this as a reader? IB mission statement is both a political and technical instrument. It could be cl...
